About Us

We are a community-led initiative and our work is governed by people who have been directly impacted by Huntington’s Disease.

The Huntington’s Disease Fund is a community interest company (CIC) with a charitable purpose to make long-lasting change for the HD community.

Our team and board are HD activists, family members, philanthropists, scientists, charity workers and creatives who believe that accessibility to medicine is an essential part of the Huntington’s Disease journey.

Understanding Huntington’s Disease

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder caused by a mutation in a single gene.

This genetic alteration disrupts the normal production of a protein called huntintin, setting in motion a gradual process that affects nerve cells in the brain. Over time, HD impacts movement, cognition, and behavior–shaping not only the lives of those who inherit it, but also the families and communities who support them.

Understanding the disease, it’s progression, and the social and emotional dimensions of living with it is essential for building compassionate systems of support.
